May 2009
The entry signals given by Trading Tips for the Day this month was excellent as it scored a superb 13 wins and 4 losses, netting a profit of 45 points per contract. 1 point = RM50 so a Day Trader who took all the signals given by Trading Tips for the Day in May 2009 would have made at least RM2,250 per contract. I used the word at least because the take profit of a trade ranges from 5-7 points and for some traders who attempted to take more profit from the trade and succeeded, the profit would have been slightly more. In trading there are two ratios to watch out. (1) Win to Loss ratio and (2) the payout ratio – net profit from a winning trade to net loss from a losing trade.
Your first ratio seems to do very well 36 : 19 from Feb to Apr 2008 ie 1.89
Your second ratio definitely has got some room for improvements. Taking same amount of profit and loss for each trade will have a ratio of less than one after taking the commission into consideration.
My suggestion is to explore the posibility of taking more profit and less loss in each trade. What are the optimum figures? It can be worked out statistically by doing a back testing on the past data.
Your trading will improve tremenously if you can take, say, 7.5 points for a profitable trade and say, 4.5 points for a lossing trade. That would give you a ratio of 1.66 provided you first ration is not proportionately reduced.
If your fist ratio is not changed (quite unlikely) under the new circumstance, then your overall result would look like this:
1.89 x 1.66 = 3.13
Happy trading!!
Thank you for your readership and valuable advice Mr Lim. I am actually still continuously improving this system so it can churn out more profits. And more back testing will reveal more about the theory that you have suggested.
Mr. Lim,
May I know what software do u use to do your back testings.
What are the best options?
TY
